Fortified by more than 150 years of family tradition in soap-making and organic fair-trade, the soaps from Dr Bronner's are Nature's gift in a bottle.
The Dr Bronner's brand's motto is very simple: Everything that is good for man can be found in Nature.
The objective is to use high-quality raw materials (completely biodegradable), in a responsible and sustainable way, for the Earth and for all the people working for the Brand, at headquarters or further down the line, so that everyone/everything benefits from it. "We are ALL-ONE or none."
Made from plant-base oils and essential oils, all organic and fair-trade certified, the soaps are gentle to the skin but still very concentrated, without any synthetic agent or preservative to help get the lovely foam we all like. The preservatives are all natural , E vitamin and citric acid.
To complement the original Pure-Castile Soaps that are the Brand's cornerstone, they decided to provide an organic Shikakai Pump Soap version, slightly thicker and more moisturising, based on the same legendary recipe of Pure-Castile soap to which organic Sugar and Shikakai powder were added.
Working on Hands, Body, Face and Hair, what is the difference you'll ask with the Pure-Castile?
Well, first, it comes in a pump bottle, which is more practical as a hand soap. And you might prefer to use it this way too in the bath or shower.
Second, as water has been replaced by natural organic humectant ingredients (white grape juice and sucrose), it will help the skin retain more moisture.
It also provides a sweeter scent.
Last but not least, the added Shikakai Powder, from a South Asian tree, long known and used in traditional Indian body care, cleans and conditions the skin and hair beautifully. It helps also with achieving the slightly thicker soap and caramel colour.
For personal care, it really is a matter of personal preference, as they feel and smell different but equally works wonders on your skin.
For household cleaning, stick with the Pure-Castile Soaps, Shikakai soaps are not recommended.
The Shikakai Soaps come in 5 different scents (well, 4 scents and one unscented, to be perfectly precise), so that they can please the whole family, from Baby to Grand-Pa, and even your beloved pets!
Being very concentrated, they do go a long way.
This is also the reason why they have several possible uses.
Add to it the numerous organic labels they can pride themselves on, the vintage design vibe they kept on the new bottles with Emmanuel Bronner's original messages, the recycled packaging and the uses the soaps allow, how could one resist this pumpy bottle, right? Or even try resisting...
They are market leaders

How to use the Shikakai Pump Soaps by Dr Bronner?
Well, a lot like their "big brothers" the Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps for the personal care part.
You'll find below the recommended uses.
- Shower or Bath gel:
One pump or two of soap on your wet washcloth or in your hands, and then lather on your wet skin.
- Hand Cleanser:
One pump of soap on your wet hands, lather and rinse.
- Face cleanser:
To remove make-up and/or clean your lovely face, use one pump on wet hands, lather, and then massage gently on your wet face.
For acne-prone skins, the Tea Tree scent will work wonders.
For sensitive skins, this Unscented/Baby mild scent may be preferred.
Apply on wet hair, amounts will depend on your hair length. Massage and rinse.
If necessary, repeat but with diluting a pump of soap into a cup of water and work it into your wet hair, massage and rinse out.
It is always preferable to rinse with a mix of apple vinegar and water solution, a slightly acidic water, to get your shine on.
Do not use on coloured hair.
